Some chargers in the Wevolt App are pole-mounted CitiPower and Powercor kerbside chargers, part of an electricity network trial across Melbourne. They work through the Wevolt App exactly like any other Wevolt charger for starting a session and paying, but reporting a hardware fault works differently, so it's worth reading this before you plug in.
If you're new to charging with Wevolt, see How Wevolt works first. For the general start sequence and RFID cards, see How to start a charge (and do I need an RFID card?).
✓ Bring your own Type 2 cable
These chargers don't have a cable attached. Bring your own Type 2 cable, ideally 7 metres, to connect your car.
⚠ Important: no Help button on these listings
Unlike other Wevolt chargers, these charger listings don't show the usual Help button in the app. For a hardware fault, report it directly to CitiPower and Powercor using the form below rather than through the app.
What are these chargers?
CitiPower and Powercor, the electricity distribution businesses for Melbourne, own and maintain a trial fleet of chargers mounted on power poles. They don't operate the chargers directly. Instead, multiple charging apps, including Wevolt, offer access to the same physical points, so pricing and session handling for a given charger depend on the app you use to start it.
Around 18 of these pole-mounted chargers, across inner Melbourne suburbs including Fitzroy, Richmond, Hawthorn, Kew, and Carlton North, are currently available in the Wevolt App, and more are being added as the trial expands.
Charging speed: what to expect
The chargers are rated 22kW or 44kW AC, but most electric vehicles sold in Australia only draw 6.4kW or 11kW AC regardless of what the charger offers. At a typical draw, expect roughly 3 to 5 hours for a full charge. None of the trial chargers support vehicle-to-grid (V2G).
If the app doesn't recognise the charger
If scanning the QR code shows "unrecognised charger", open the map in the Wevolt App instead and select the charger from there. This works even while a site is still being fully added to the network. If the charger still won't start, contact us below and we'll look into it.
Reporting a hardware fault
If a charger is damaged, physically stuck, or won't power up, report it directly to CitiPower and Powercor using their EV charger fault report form. They own and maintain the hardware, so they're best placed to fix it. The form is open to anyone, you don't need to be a CitiPower or Powercor customer.
For anything related to your Wevolt session or payment, contact Wevolt support below as usual.
