Use this guide to start your first charge on the Wevolt Network. It covers how to begin a session from the app, whether you need a physical RFID card, and the right order of steps at chargers that lock the socket.
If you have charged before and the session will not begin or drops out, see Session won't start or stops unexpectedly.
✓ You do not need to wait for a card
You can start charging now with the Wevolt App. A physical RFID card is an optional convenience for tapping to start once it arrives. It is not required to charge.
Do I need an RFID card?
No. Charging on the Wevolt Network is app-first. You can start a session straight away from the Wevolt App without a physical card. The card is an optional convenience for tapping to start, and you can keep using the app even after it arrives.
Start a charge from the app
- Download the Wevolt App and create an account. Verify your email address so your account can start a session.
- Add a payment method in the app.
- Open the map, tap the charger, and check it shows Available.
- Select the connector that matches your vehicle (CCS2, CHAdeMO, or Type 2 AC).
- Press Start Charging, then connect the cable to your car.
Some chargers lock the socket until you start
On many AC chargers the socket stays locked until you begin the session. If plugging in does nothing, select the connector in the app and press Start Charging first, then plug in once it unlocks. On most DC fast chargers the cable is tethered, so you plug in first and then press Start Charging.
Special resident or member rates
Some buildings, workplaces, and member groups issue an RFID card linked to a special per-kilowatt-hour rate for that site.
⚠ Important: special rates
If your card was issued through a building, workplace, or member group with a special rate, starting through the app before the card is active may bill you at the standard public rate. If that applies to you, contact us with your site or building name and we will confirm the rate.
Paying for your charge
You pay through the card saved on your Wevolt account. When you start a session, a temporary $25.00 pre-authorisation hold is placed on your card to verify it is active. This is not a charge, and it is released at the end of the session. For more detail, see How Do I Pay for Charging?
