Can I Keep My Chargers Private?

Yes. Wevolt supports both public and private charging. Whether you’re managing chargers for a business fleet, workplace, or residential property, you have full control over who can access them.

What “private” means

When a charger is set to private:

  • It does not appear on the public map in the Wevolt App, so casual drivers won’t see it or attempt to use it.
  • Only authorised users — for example, those with an RFID card you’ve issued or app users you’ve added to an access group — can start a session.
  • You retain full visibility of sessions and energy delivered through Wevolt Hub.

Marking a charger as private in Wevolt Hub

Privacy is set per charger from Wevolt Hub. The control sits alongside the other charger settings configured during onboarding — see Adding a Charger in Wevolt Hub for the full setup flow.

For an existing charger, sign in to Wevolt Hub, open the charger, and change its visibility setting. Save and the charger will be removed from the public map immediately.

Access control options

Wevolt supports a few ways to grant access to a private charger:

  • RFID groups — issue RFID cards to drivers and group them by site, team, or vehicle. A driver taps their card to authorise the session. See Manage RFID Access in Wevolt Hub (draft — ask the Wevolt team if you need access while it’s being finalised).
  • Delegate users — add other Wevolt Hub users to your account so they can manage chargers or sessions on your behalf. See How to Add a Delegate User with Permissions.

Hybrid: public and private at the same site

A single location can mix public and private chargers. For example, a workplace might keep one bay public to serve visiting customers and reserve the rest for staff via RFID. Each charger’s visibility is set independently in Wevolt Hub, so you can build the access model that fits your site.

Common use cases

  • Residential strata — chargers in a body-corporate car park, restricted to residents.
  • Workplace — staff charging during business hours, with optional public access after hours.
  • Fleet depot — chargers reserved for company vehicles only, with each vehicle’s usage tracked by RFID.
  • Dealership or service centre — chargers for loan vehicles or customer top-ups, not on the public map.
